Information processed when you visit
- Standard request data: the hosting and asset-delivery services receive technical details needed to return a page, such as IP address, requested URL, time, browser information, and response status.
- Information you submit: a contact form sends the name, email address, subject, and message you enter. A newsletter form sends the email address you enter. These forms are transmitted to ScrutnLearn's Google Apps Script endpoints only when you press the relevant submit button.
- Local preferences: the browser may store site preferences such as the selected light or dark theme and newsletter-interface state. These values stay in your browser until they expire, are replaced, or you clear site data.
Privacy and cookie choices
You can use browser privacy settings, cookie controls, tracking protection, or content-blocking tools to control third-party storage and requests. Blocking advertising does not prevent you from reading tutorials or using retained browser-based utilities.
Clearing site data also removes local ScrutnLearn preferences such as the selected theme.
Advertising
ScrutnLearn currently does not load third-party advertising scripts or serve third-party advertisements on public pages.
Analytics
No separate Google Analytics or other standalone analytics tag is currently loaded by this project. Any future measurement service requires a corresponding implementation and policy update.
Hosting, forms, and external assets
The site is configured for Firebase Hosting. Contact and newsletter submissions use Google Apps Script. Some pages request interface assets such as fonts, icons, or libraries from Google-hosted services, jsDelivr, cdnjs, and MaxCDN; those providers receive the network information required to deliver the requested file. Following a Microsoft Learn or social link takes you to that provider's website and policy.
The retained broken-link and sitemap utilities run through your browser and may request the URL you enter in order to produce a result. Do not enter a private intranet URL, credential-bearing URL, or confidential site address. The loan calculator performs its arithmetic in the browser.
ScrutnLearn accounts
Firebase Authentication handles email/password and Google sign-in credentials. ScrutnLearn does not store account passwords, password hashes, Google passwords, authentication tokens, service-account credentials, or private keys. Firebase manages browser session persistence.
Firestore stores the profile fields you provide, including display name, username, email, country, experience level, interests, and bio, together with account timestamps and optional lesson bookmarks and completion records. These records are private to the authenticated account under user-specific Firestore rules. Google profile photos are displayed from the provider URL when available and are not copied or uploaded by ScrutnLearn.
You can request a password reset, edit your profile, sign out, or delete your account from Settings. Account deletion removes the ScrutnLearn-owned profile, bookmark, and progress data before requesting deletion of the Firebase Authentication account; Firebase may require a recent sign-in for security.
How we use and retain information
We use submitted information to answer an enquiry, process a requested subscription, review a contribution, protect the service, and resolve technical problems. We do not sell personal information. Form data is kept only as long as reasonably needed for the request, record-keeping, abuse prevention, or a legal obligation; you may ask us to delete information we control.
Providers process data according to their own terms when they host the site, deliver an asset, receive a form submission, or serve an accepted advertising request. No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure, but we limit collection to the functions described here.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of personal data we control, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. Email the address below with enough detail to identify the submission. We may need to verify the request without asking for unnecessary identity documents.
Links to other websites
Our Site contains links to other websites, including tutorials, references, and tool pages that may link externally. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by us, and we have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.
Children's privacy
Our Site does not knowingly address or collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page along with a revised "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
