How the plagiarism checker works
The checker normalizes the submitted text into overlapping groups of five words and compares those groups with ScrutnLearn's maintained local corpus and any text files you select. It reports the proportion of checked phrases that also occur in those sources, identifies exact-overlap passages and separates results by source.
This evidence is deliberately narrow. Similarity can occur in common phrases, names, definitions and canonical code, while paraphrased or unavailable sources may not be detected. A percentage on this page describes only the sources actually checked; it is not a fabricated web-wide plagiarism score.
How to check, rewrite and download content

- Review exact-overlap passages and the sources actually checked.
- Switch to Plagiarism Remover or use the action beside a flagged result.
- Choose Light, Balanced or Strong rewriting.
- Rewrite the selected passages or complete document.
- Review factual accuracy and citation duties.
- Select Recheck Result to move the complete revision into the checker, then run the check.
- Download the finished result as TXT, Markdown or DOCX.
What plagiarism removal means here
The remover is a conservative prose-revision engine. It changes sentence construction and reviewed phrases when it can do so without altering protected information. Light mode makes small wording edits, Balanced mode combines phrasing changes with safe sentence restructuring, and Strong mode allows more structural changes while applying the same fact checks.
When checker evidence exists, Flagged sections only is selected by default so original passages are not rewritten without a reason. You can instead choose the entire document. If no safe natural revision is available, the tool preserves the original rather than producing synonym-spun nonsense.
Large documents and rechecking
Large inputs are divided at headings, paragraphs, lists and safe sentence boundaries. Each section is rewritten sequentially, validated for protected facts and then reassembled in its original order. Real chunk counts and progress are shown, and Cancel stops future work without replacing the original.
Recheck Result moves the complete rewritten document into Checker mode without inventing a new score. Select Check Plagiarism there to perform the genuine comparison.
Natural rewriting instead of word spinning
Original ScrutnLearn example: “Python is a popular programming language used for web development.”
Poor synonym spinning: “Python remains an admired coding tongue utilized for internet creation.” This sounds unnatural and damages established terminology.
Meaning-preserving revision: “Python is popular as a programming language for web development.” The structure changes without inventing a capability or replacing accurate technical words.
Facts, code, quotations and citations
Numbers, dates, versions, URLs, citations, quoted passages, code spans, code blocks, commands and file paths are protected during rewriting. A line such as const total = price * quantity; remains code; the remover does not rename variables merely to create cosmetic uniqueness.
Quoted material should remain quoted and attributed. If a passage depends on another person's research, wording changes do not make that research yours. Cite the source even when the surrounding explanation has been rewritten.
Document support, privacy and security
TXT and Markdown are read as UTF-8 text. DOCX files are validated as safe archives and parsed without running macros. PDF extraction reads selectable text only; scanned pages require OCR and are reported as unsupported. Images and embedded executable content are not processed.
Comparison, extraction, rewriting and export happen locally in browser memory. Documents are not stored in Firebase or sent to an online converter, checker or rewriting service. Input is rendered as text rather than executable HTML, so pasted scripts and event handlers are not run.
Files are limited to 20 MB, PDFs to 100 pages and extracted text to 750,000 characters. Reloading clears the working state, so keep your own copy of important originals and revisions.
Limitations
- Similarity does not automatically prove plagiarism, and common phrases may match naturally.
- The checker is not a whole-internet search; sources outside the bundled corpus or supplied files are outside its coverage.
- Facts do not become original merely because their wording changes, and attribution may still be required.
- Code and required syntax may legitimately match other examples and are not rewritten.
- A deterministic local engine cannot safely restructure every passage. Unchanged text is preferable to an invented or misleading result.
- Important technical, legal, medical and compliance material requires careful human review.

What is a plagiarism remover?
A plagiarism remover rewrites overly similar prose in different natural wording while preserving its meaning. ScrutnLearn uses conservative local rules and leaves text unchanged when it cannot make a safe revision.
Does rewriting remove the need to cite sources?
No. Rewording does not remove attribution duties for quotations, sourced ideas, data or claims. Keep the citation whenever the underlying material requires one.
Will the remover change facts?
The engine protects numbers, URLs, citations, quotations and code tokens, and it checks those protected values after rewriting. Important technical, legal or medical material still needs human review.
Can it rewrite technical content?
It can revise surrounding prose, but it deliberately preserves code, commands, file paths, URLs and technical identifiers. Canonical syntax may legitimately resemble other examples.
Can it guarantee 100% originality?
No. A zero match means only that no exact five-word overlap was found in the sources checked. It is not proof of web-wide originality or a legal conclusion about plagiarism.
Should rewritten content be checked again?
Yes. Use the recheck action to compare the revised wording against the same available corpus, then review meaning, facts and citations before publishing.
Can I upload a whole document?
Yes. You can upload a TXT, Markdown, DOCX or text-based PDF file up to 20 MB. Extracted text is limited to 750,000 characters and is processed in semantic sections when rewriting.
Can I upload DOCX files?
Yes. The local DOCX reader extracts headings, paragraphs and lists where possible. It ignores images and rejects macro-enabled or unsafe archives.
Can I upload PDFs?
Text-based PDFs can be read locally. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no selectable text layer, so this tool reports that limitation instead of fabricating extracted content.
Will document formatting be preserved?
Meaningful text structure such as headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes and code blocks is preserved where practical. A downloaded DOCX is a clean new document, not a byte-for-byte copy of the source formatting.
Can I download rewritten content?
Yes. Complete rewritten results can be downloaded as TXT, Markdown or a newly generated DOCX file.
Are uploaded documents stored?
No. Documents are read temporarily in browser memory and are not stored in Firebase or uploaded to a third-party conversion service.
Does ScrutnLearn upload my text?
No. Comparison, document extraction and deterministic rewriting run locally in the browser. This tool does not send pasted documents to an external checker or rewriting service.
